Blackwater Sailing Barge Match Association
Details of vantage points,
following boats, etc.
e.g. The start of
this race is off Osea Island.
Barges need to leave Maldon Hythe around High water i.e.
very early, in order to motor down river whilst there
is water at the Quay side.
They then have time for breakfast before the start of
the race.
There are various places along the riverside from which
the progress of the barges can be seen e.g. Stansgate
(Start),Stone, St. Lawrence Bay, Bradwell.
BSMBA members can charter places in a following boat,
and there is usually a sailing barge chartered by Topsail
Charters which follows the race with members of the public
on board.
